The Techno-Wizard

Many great works of classic and popular literature tell the tale of young men who grow into their roles as great men with the help of a mentor character. From Merlin to Dumbledore the wizard has taught the squire how to use his abilities and tools to make his mark on the world.
Uncle Jeff
"The Chip" shares this tradition in the character of Jeff. He is the equipment man, the role-model, and parental figure to Stanley Ross. Jeff designed and built the "chip" of the book's title: a microchip integral to the use of Stanley's superheroic abilities as The Chip!

Jeff's demeanor seems cold and scientific on the outside, but he cares deeply about his family. His habits and way of life are unusual, but his role to play in giving Stanley the confidence of adulthood and the safety of his equipment is key to their very lives.

"He had to recreate it, but no one could know. Jeff didn't even want to tell James or Jane, at the risk of getting their hopes up when he wasn't sure he could follow through. Since all of his paperwork had burned in the explosion, he had nothing to go on but his memory. Thank goodness, he said to himself, that I stopped drinking when I did."
